The Second World War was over 75 years ago, but the echoes were still in the face of the fallen struggle with Nazism. This year, Kaunatā was installed on the Jews of the memorial stone war, which complements the existing memorial in the war OF Kaunatas in front of the secondary school.
In the long-term history teacher and the head of the county research workshop, Stanislava Inkina, who has spent very much time studying THE history of Kaunatas, said that when the war began, the German occupation authority turned to Jews whose populated site was Kaunata. Their fate was resolved, shooting. Almost all of THE Jews living IN Kaunatā were shot, the shooting locations were several: at Kaunatas crossroads, Parushat, at Bark's graves, Idzepole. Everybody was condemned to death: both children, disabled people, and powerful people. Hebrew Hirsh took his grave 3 times, but was shot in another place. Today, Kaunatā is not more synagogue, Jewish properties have not been preserved, everything is virtually destroyed. Only a few Jews who worked in public institutions remained alive.
Four years ago, Kaunas was attended by Amanda Rivkin, who was living in America, with his father, Bernard Rivkin, who expressed his will for a memorial plate with shooting Jews. At the beginning of this school year, Mrs Amanda spoke TO Kaunatas High School as an opportunity to realize her and her father's wish, expanding her memory. By harmonising the extension of the memorial site with the Rēzekne District Council, this noble work was initiated. The stone plate, which makes us remember the events of that time, is installed. THE Jewish families of THE Kaunatas neighbourhood have been enriched so that the next generations remember and respect the tragic pages of the history.
Although today, because of the emergency situation, there is no pupil at school, it must become a day joining, rather than dividing, because we ourselves are responsible for our country and its future.
