From 12 to 14 February, Latgale tourism association “Ezerland” was represented in the international tourism exhibition “Tourest 2016”, which was held in Estonia in Estonia for the 25 th time. It is the oldest tourist exhibition in the Baltic States, which brings together a large number of tourism participants and stakeholders each year.

Also this year the exhibition was well-visited, and the interest in Latgale tourism developments was large. It is recognised that Latvia as a tourist destination is well known. In the past, however, Vidzeme and Kurzeme have been a predominant route for the travellers. Therefore, in the context of Latgale stands, people are often interested in general issues, such as which the region differs from others in their tender and how it is better to get to the destination.

The interest in Latgale as an attractive destination for tourist groups, as well as new sites such as Latgale embassy GORE and the Mark Rootko Center in Daugavpils, which calls for cultural lovers from across Europe, was struck by the interest of the tourist and tourist industry professionals – guides and tourist professionals – in the tourism sector as an attractive destination for tourist groups, as well as new sites such as Latgale embassy GORE and the Mark Rootko Center.

In summarising the questions asked by visitors, it is clear that Estonia's tourists Latvia, as well as Latgale, is only one of the stops, travelling all Baltic countries. However, it is delighted that more and more visitors expressed their willingness to spend most of their journey in Latgale. The greatest interest visitors have shown to be natural tourism, as well as well-equipped accommodation in rural areas, as well as regional cultural history sites.

It must be acknowledged that recent trends show that the number of tourists from neighbouring countries is experiencing stable growth in Latvia, which means that travellers both from Estonia and Lithuania are increasingly choosing to go to Latgale. It is therefore particularly important to present the region's offer, which is very often in line with the needs of the potential tourists of neighbouring countries. Therefore, participation in the Tallinn exhibition should be seen as a particularly valuable contribution to the image of the region's tourism industry in the eyes of its direct consumers.

The participation of Latgale tourism specialists in this and other international exhibitions is ensured by the support of Latgale local governments, Latvian Investment and Development Agency and European Regional Development Fund.
