On the work of the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency (LGIA) in the territory of Rezekne municipality

In 2016, employees of the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency (LGIA) will perform rural survey work in the municipality of Rēzekne Nagles, Gaigalava, Dricana and Struijan. These works are carried out as part OF an update of the topographic map M1: 10 000.
Latvian Geospatial Information Agency (LGIA) is a leading authority in the implementation of national policy in the field of geodetic, cartography and geospatial information.
THE LGIA operates in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 384 of 9 July 2013 “By-laws of the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency”, the results of THE LGIA medium-term performance specified in the Latvian Geospatial Information Development Concept adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers on 17 December 2013 and the annual work plan.
The Ministry of Defence shall plan and monitor the implementation of geodetic and Cartographic Basic Data Acquisition, Preparation and Update, as well as the execution of geospatial information services within the framework of annual State budget financing.
THE TASKS of THE LGIA are laid down in the Law on Geospatial Information and THE Law ON LGIA, as well as in Cabinet Regulation No. 113 of 25 February 2014, Regulations of the Geospatial Basic Data Information System.
According to the abovementioned laws and regulations, THE LGIA shall perform the preparation and updating of the topographic map at 1:10 000 for the entire territory of Latvia. The latest aerophotomaterials are used in the preparation of maps, but in order for the map data to be topical and reliable, a survey of the area to be mapped in nature is carried out.
LGIA employees who carry out field surveys are often confronted with situations where residents do not allow the movement, tracking and photography of their property in territories, are unwelcome, threaten to swallow dogs and damage cars.
We shall be informed that all employees OF LGIA have certificates of work which may be shown, if necessary, as well as travel only with the national armed forces, which are recognizable by national registration numbers beginning with the letters LA.
