On 14 June, a conference on “Latgale 2020: agricultural development — opportunities and challenges” was held at the Rēzekne Technology Academy (RTA). It piedalījās more than 110 participants from various locations in Latvia.
Rēzekne Technology Academy rector Edmunds Turumnieks, emphasising THE important role OF RTA in the region, Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs, highlighting the future perspectives of agriculture, Saeima deputy Janis Trupovnieks, emphasizes the importance of investing in Latgale.
Aivars Bernāns, Chairman of the Board of Farmers of Latgale-producing farmers, says: “we are pleased that the event gathered together representatives of the industry and the decision-making authority. We must think together about the current situation and plan what support for agricultural workers will be in the next programming period after 2020. When you create a dialog, you can obtain accurate information, make proposals. The situation is also extremely different in the region, with a wide variety of climatic conditions. Therefore, a common exchange of ideas is urgently needed. I call on farmers to join the association“ Association of farmers producing Latgale ”and to actively make proposals for both the current situation in agriculture and the vision of the future.”
In the event, the representatives of the institutions informed stakeholders about the current events of the Rural Support Service and the State Revenue Service, indicating that farmers should show the initiative, participate in project competitions, follow the changes in the legislation. The conference participants agreed that agricultural education in Latgale should also be supported, due to the acute lack of highly qualified specialists – agronomers, veterinarians, etc. Representative of the college of Malnava Victor Indrichan emphasized that the new specialists needed modern equipment, an innovator approach. RTA project management and technology transfer contact point manager Lienīte Litavniece and RTA project co-ordinator Maris Igavens talked about the opportunities offered for cooperation with farmers. The RTA is a step forward in implementing the “SalesLabs” project, in which students in the course of the course of the course are subordinate to practical tasks and make up 30 % of the subject matter. In contrast, 70 % course substances are devoted to finding solutions to the problems of companies.
A representative of the association “Latgale-producing farmers” (z/s “Kotiņi”) Roland Keiš noted that the measure provided maximum and accurate information on the current agricultural sphere. “This kind of meeting and constructive dialogue facilitates the exchange of information, contributing to the development of important issues for farmers,” SAYS Keiš.
