On November 11, Lāčplēsis Day is celebrated, remembering the victory of the independent Latvian Army over the Western Voluntary Army or the Bermont troops. Thanks to this victory, Latvia's statehood was strengthened, the foundation of which was laid down on 18 November 1918.
Many Latvian men participated in the decisive battles, among them Joseph Kaļva, born IN 1890 in 1890. Joseph Kaļva, with his companions, took part in the struggle. Also, on November 11, 1919, there was a battle in the field, fighting at the Shampier Manor. As a result of the fight, Joseph Kaļva was rewarded with the Order of Lāčplēsis and was granted agricultural land in Ludza District during the early reform, where Joseph successfully landed until he was sent to the far north of Kirova in 1941, where he did not return home again.
IN Sakstagala parish tombs, Joseph Kaļva's own nationals have set up a memorial plate for their strange relatives.
We will be as long as we remember our roots, our ancestors and heroes. Therefore, every year, ON the eve of Lāčplēsis Day Sakstagala, the 9 th grade school pupils of Jānis KCo are participating in the living history hour, when they go to the graves of the pauru to meet Joseph Kaļva's life story and honor the memorial of the Lāčplēsis Order of the Order of the Order of Lāčplēsis, burning the candles and singing “two mud”.
