Saxagalians travel to Latgale

Education

Sakstagala Jānis Kco's primary school, with the project “Latgale at various times”, has won a win in the excursion competition “we'll explore and know Latvia's history!”. The competition is financially supported by the Montreal Latvian Public Centre, but the project organisers are the foundation “willow foundation”. On 23 May, we, Sakstagala Jānis Kaida, students of Classes 6 and 7 of the Basic School, educators, as well as participants in the olimpens of teaching subjects, went into a free-looking excursion along Latgale. The purpose of the trip was to develop more interest in Latgale history in various times, to meet various objects, places, their history.
At first the road ran along the Razna Lake to the Cloud Mountain, also called the Padebea mountain. It is one of the highest varieties of Latgale, which have steep slopes that have been covered with forest. There is a pretty steep staircase with wooden bandages in the clouds. We managed to count the 265 steps. We met the workers who removed the storm and released the trail from the wind. In 1252, the Livonian Order built one of the first fortifications in Latgale, the Volkenberg Palace. Until today, only the fragments of the large wall of the wall were preserved, which we looked at with great awe. From the hill we had a wonderful look at Razna's lake, but at the bottom it was a clear Ubogow lake that was called Latgale's clear eye. At the foot of the hill we looked at the memorial stone of Charles Ulmanis's visit in 1938 at the time of his Latgale visit.
On the mountain of Crome, we met the Lord himself, giggling in ancient Latvian clothes, with his sword in his hands. In this time, Alexander Luban, along with his companions, builds a wooden palace of the 9 th-12 th century with towers and a lift bridge. The boys had a chance to wear around 15 kg of heavy medieval armor and keep real swords, and try to walk with such heavy clothing and swallow swords. There we saw the shooting of bullets from a self-made catapult.
We also visited the “Androupenes Rural City” museum, where we could see a hundred-year-old farmhouse, rock, smoke, various tools and household objects. With a delicious mouth, we tasted Latgale's culinary heritage miracles - pancaku with cymus, asbestos, butter, fresh bread and herbal tea.
Every member of the excursion could survive, feel, admit, and even extend the contestation of the old age in their historical objects, listen to plausible and incredible stories.
The boys of our class were going to try to create a medieval magazine from small stone, but the girls and the nurse, in the days following the excursion, formed an exhibition from ancient work tools, equipment, involving pupils and parents in the preparation of the exhibition.
On behalf of pupils, educators and parents, we want to express gratitude to the Montreal Latvian Public Centre, the willow foundation, as well AS THE Sakstagala parish administration for excursion support.
