International poetry Day at Tiskādu High School

31.03.2017

Education

As our country approached Latvia's centuries and remembering the commemoration of the victims of Communist terror, a poetry afternoon was organised at the High School. In preparation for this event, pupils with teachers read the most beautiful poems of the various authors and poetry books about Latvia, and in Latvian language hours the pupils wrote letters to the birthday. The letters were addressed to the people of Latvia sent to Siberia.
At the beginning of the day of poetry, the teacher Irina Lashkova and Luda Schemewa organised an intellectual game about the history of the 20 th century. The 4 th-10 th classes included 4 teams: “Tisks”, “Latvians”, “peasants”, “peace”. They answered questions about the poems heard, read by class 6 pupils, about Latvia's events, history data, nature, etc. The winners were awarded with sweet prizes.
After the game, our children read their self-conscious poems about Latvia, nature, family, school, expressing their patriotic feelings, love and respect for their hometown. Some poems were lyric or humoristic, others were patriotic, but in all poems we heard the pride of our native Latvia.
All the authors of the poetry were awarded with diplomas and sweet prizes.
Thank you very much to students, teachers and school administration for the beautiful historic event.
Irina Scherbacov,
Deputy Director-General for Education
