The largest parish in Rezekne municipality.

Gaigalava parish is one of the smallest population densities (4.3 ./km2) in Rezekne municipality. Gaigalavas parish is located in the eastern Luban area of Eastern Latvia, the northern part of Rezekne municipality. It borders the parish of Dricans, Nagles, Nautrenes, Rikavas and Strujans, the municipality of Berzpils and Krišjana and the parish of Madona District, Ošupes. The parish is rich with marshes and lakes - there is a part of Latvia's greatest lake Lubana (524 ha), Big Kūrina Lake (66 ha), Saint lake (19 ha), Lake Small Kūrina (17 ha). Marshes: part Salas and Fence - Shrinkov swamp, Sauleskaln swamp, upes - Micha and Rezekne. The parish is crossed by the Grade 1 motorway Rēzekne - Gulbene, 2 nd class motorways Dziļars - Vectrushans - Rogovka, Gaigalava - Crowns - Fruit and Gaigalava - Vilnius.

In 1925 Bikavas civil parish renamed the parish OF Gaigalavas. In 1935, the area OF Rēzekne District Gaigalavas parish was 126.35 km ² and there were 3683 residents. In 1945, the parish was created BY Gaigalavas, Garanz, Nagļu and Stružānu in the Council, but the parish was liquidated in 1949. Gaigalavas village fit IN THE district OF Viļānu (1947-1949) and Viļānu (1949-1962) and Rezekne (after 1962). In 1954, THE village of Gaigalavas joined the liquidated Stružānu village, in 1962 the territory of the Garanza village kolhoza “Gaigalava”, in 1973 part of the territory was added TO Nagļu village, in 1981 part of the territory was added TO THE village OF Stružānu. In 1990, the village was reorganized as a parish. In 2009, Gaigalavas parish was included as administrative territory in Rezekne municipality.

Historical heritage

Gaigalavas parish is rich in natural, architectural and archaeological monuments, including archaeological monuments of national significance: Diervanine ancient grave, Kareton antiques, The ancient tomb of the pudars, first and second Cavana ancient grave, archaeological monuments of local significance: Deep medieval graveyard, Enclosed ancient grave. The architectural monuments of local significance are the Catholic Church of Bikova, the building of Bikava Manor, the manager's house and the park. Significant are ancient tomb in Meuranium marsha and Mixer camp. Bikavas (also Bikova) manor building since 1937 there is a Gaigalavas primary school. There is a story about the former manor building that there have been several secret passageways under this building, leading to the church and the graves. In the 18 th century, the owner of the estate was MR Romers. In the manor complex was the house of the lord and the free design park, which was located in 1820 in the classicist style of the stone chapel, the housekeeper and the servants' house, several farm buildings and stables. The master's house was 19.gs in the late 18.gs s, when the estate was owned BY S. Benislavsk, a large holiday hall with columns. In 1905, the manor was in a fire. By 1917, it had several owners. 20.gs. In the 20 th-30 s, the house was rebuilt and rebuilt, built on the second floor. Gaigalavas parish includes nature reserve Precarbaine South-East (~ 480.5 ha). The barring covers the Gomel Gulf of Luban Lake and the surrounding areas where the unique natural habitats are still preserved — Luban clan, several marshes, forest arrays. There is also a Cavana pond in the parish area, which is part of nature reserve Iceland and Cavana ponds. These places involve tourist interest, so the parish created bird observation towers and tourist trails for natural observation. Nature reserve Island swamp (Solas swamp) particularly important as a breeding site for rare and endangered bird species. There are rare and endangered bird species in the Solas swamp, including typical swamps: drunken, yellow worm, black semi-cuital, swamp bridge, honey, Rubenis, meadows. The swamp has a variety of natural habitat complexes. A protected nature object of local significance is Old-jet park (established 1972, area 5,5 ha).
