Lubāns Lake

Lubāns with a total area of ​​80.7 ha, it is the largest lake in Latvia, formed approximately 10-13 thousand years ago as a result of the melting of glaciers. In the 20th century, the Lubāns lowlands were hit by several catastrophic spring floods. The lake's surface area increased more than 5 times, and the floods lasted from 70 to 270 days. The damage caused by the floods was the main reason that led to the problem of the Lubāns lowlands being addressed in the last 150 years.
