Celebrating Europe's Natural and National Park Day

In order to focus on the existence and significance of protected natural areas, a European Day of Natural and National Parks is celebrated on 24 May. This tradition has been established since 1999 BY THE EUROPARC Federation to safeguard and promote Europe's natural diversity, as well as to promote the popularity of protected areas and to increase public support for the protection of nature. In that year, the European Nature and National Parks Day has been given a ninth “Nature is our Business”.
The Nature Protection Board, which is a leading national regulatory authority in the field of environmental protection and manages specially protected natural areas in Latvia, will celebrate the European Natural and National Park Day this year by organising activities in all regions of Latvia.
LATGALE REGION
On Wednesday, May 20, a event dedicated to the European Nature and National Parks Day will take place in the Nature Park. Gathering at 10.00 Women in the ancient information centre “swans” (bird island, Bebrenes parish Ilūkstes municipality). Stakeholders will be able to acquaint themselves with information about Latvia's natural and national parks, as well as to participate in environmental statement games on specially protected areas of nature.
On Sunday, May 24, from 10.00 to 12.00 13.00 An event dedicated to the day of Europe's natural and national parks will take place in Razna National Park at the Nature Education Centre “Razna” (Schools street 3, Lipuški, Mākoņkalna parish Rēzekne municipality). Stakeholders will be able to get acquainted with information about Latvia's natural and national parks, watch the film about Razna National Park, as well as participate in environmental inquiries about specially protected areas of nature.
PIERRA REGION
The European Nature and National Park Day will be celebrated at the same time as the day of biodiversity. The events will be organised on Saturday, 23 May. 10.10:30 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The event will be chaired by Maris Ribickis of the Olaine History and War Museum. The trip will take place on the side of the Smarketing and Valguma lake, with a planned length of ~ 25 km, a duration of ~ 3-4 h. Travel is intended for both asphalted roads and small forest roads/trails without any cover. The route also includes the highest point of the Kemeri National Park – Lustūzkalns. A joint picnic with a fire in a recreational area on the shore of the lake of Lake Lake is intended for the end of the hiking. Water drinking, snack picnic, matching clothes, good mood, and willingness to find out something new.
In turn, in the Nature Education Centre “forest house” on Saturday, 23 May, from 11:00 to 12:00 15:00 will be an opportunity to learn more about Latvian national parks and their offer, and to try to find out, with the help of interesting games, how much different natural wealth is.

KURZEME REGION
On Friday, 22 May, the European Natural and National Park Day was celebrated in Slīteres National Park. From at 11.00 to 12.00 16.00 The Dundaga municipality in Slytherin will be an open “oak house” at the Slytherin parish. It will be able to watch short stories about Latvian national parks, playing natural consciousness games to learn something new about nature and its diversity.
VIDZEME REGION
On Sunday, 24 May, activities devoted to the day of Europe's natural and national parks will be organised within the framework of the Sigulda Environment and Music Festival “clean Latvia”. From at 10.00 to 12.00 16.00 stakeholders will be able to operate in the knowledge and creative workshops that will be held in the Sigulda festival.
The theme of natural and national parks will also be devoted to natural education activities in the Vidzeme Region Nature Education Centre “pauguuri” in the Līgatne municipality, “Northern vidzeme” Salacgriva, as well as the Nature Education Centre “Vecupīte” in the Koznu municipality.
