The Nature Protection Board continues to implement the project on the development of technical solutions for the launching of biotope restoration measures in the “randu meadow” and “Liepāja Lake” and Razna National Park. One of the activities within the project is to assess the causes of eutrophication of Lake Razna Lake and the potential for restoration without damaging the surrounding ecosystems. In order to assess the diversity of lake fish, their growth rate, feeding habits etc., this week, as from 18 July 2016, a control fishery for scientific research is carried out in Razna Lake.
Research in the procurement procedure has been entrusted to the establishment “Institute for Environmental Solutions” and the specialists will use vessels with internal combustion engines in the Razna Lake in these days. Their use for such purposes is permitted under the individual protection and use rules of the Razna National Park. Similarly, Nordic-type multi-eye gillnets will be used.
The employees of the Nature Protection Administration will follow the work to be performed. Local inhabitants are invited to take what is happening and call Dainim Tucham (mob. 25644164) or Alexander Savičam (28703840).
It should be noted that work on sampling and analysis of water, aquatic plants and aquatic animals is ongoing in order to obtain detailed information on the causes of eutrophication of Razna Lake and the main pollution-forming sites. The “environmental solution institute” will also assess the nutrient concentration in the lake, the distribution of microscopic algae and the composition of the species etc.
Additional information: Razna National Park is designed to preserve the diversity of Razna Lake and associated species and habitats, the cultural historical and landscape values of the area and the promotion of non-degrading economic development, natural tourism and ecological education. In the Nature Protection Plan of Razna National Park (2009-2019), the eutrophication of lakes is mentioned as one of the most significant threats to the site, as demonstrated by the increase in biogenes in water bodies. The main reason for this is the absence of unginned wastewater in lakes in the past and today. The agricultural use of land has also led to the enrichment of lakes with nutrients. In 2008, the lake of Lake Razna was already 6,1 % from the surface of the mirror, or 353 ha. The overhead is composed mainly of regular cane, melons and lenses. Planktonic algae blooming was observed in the shallow areas of the summer.
The project will result in an action plan for the Eutrophication of Razna Lake Eutrophication, which will include a set of gradual, concrete and practical problems based on scientific data. All activities are planned to be implemented by 31 October 2016.
The project “development of technical solutions for the commencement of biotope restoration activities in the natural reserve“ randu meadows ”and“ Liepāja lake ”and the Razna National Park” is implemented by the Nature Protection Board, financed by the Latvian Environment Protection Fund.
