Every day we get the garbage from our dwellings and rub them in the courtyards. In these waste, everything is crazy – empty juice parcels, plastic bags, coffee boxes, dirty napkins, candy papers, apple cores, etc. We know little about what happens to these waste. That is why we, Sakstagala Jānis Kaida, students of Classes 8 and 9 of the Basic School and our chemistry and geography teachers, went to the study visit “clean Latvia” on the landfill site “Križeviks” and SIA “Rezekne Water”.
As a result of their sincere excursion in 2007, the Rēzekne Municipality landfill site “Križeviks”, where the waste is shipped. The landfill trucks are weighed on the landfill because the waste disposal is to be carried out. We were also weighed: the weight of all pupils and teachers was 2076 kg. The cars go to a huge grass where the belt conveyor is continuously running. The landfill is concerned with the acceptance and management of waste shipped in containers. Miscellaneous waste is received, which is sorted, processed and stored in such a way as to be environmentally safe and efficient. The experts examined our knowledge of both the sorting of waste and the length of time necessary to completely divide the various waste into nature. Although we talked about it several times, we did some errors. The facts about the duration of the decomposition of napkins, napkins and angling lines were amazed.
Following the landfill of Rezekne, we refer to SIA “Rezekne Water” treatment plants where waste water collection, treatment and disposal occur. There we saw how water from floating waste, sand, fat was cleaned with mechanical hoofs and sandwiches. The water then enters the settlers, the pools with active sludge, bacteria and finally is entered into the Rēzekne river.
This visit makes it easier for us to understand what we can do to influence, improve or at least do not worsen the environment we live in. The waste has no place in nature and we must make sure that the waste itself comes into the right place.
The project “Support for the development of individual competences” is financed by the European Social Fund.
