The development of a specially protected nature and Natura 2000 site nature reserve “Luban wetlands” (Luban wetlands) has been launched. On 12 November of that year at 17.00 a public video conference of the start of the plan will be held, with the possibility of asking questions to the developers of the plan and the public institutions involved.

From 9 to 13 November, everyone will be able to get acquainted with the design and objectives of the plan, the Luban wetted general information, as well as sending questions to the developers of the plan, writing to the lubans@enviro.lv.

The Plan for Nature Protection Administration is developed BY SIA “Enviroproject” (31, Riga, LV-1002, telephone 25641455, www.enviro.lv). Further information on the design of the plan, the progress of the public video conference and the connection www.enviro.lv be available at (under the “Nature reserve“ Lubana wetlands ”).

The Luban wetlands are 50 344 ha, an internationally important wetland listed IN RAMSAR. The nature reserve was established in 2009 to ensure uniform protection of Latvia's largest domestic wetlands complex.

The wetlands are a unique natural complex of European and global significance with outstanding importance for the conservation of many of the populations and habitats of specially protected species. Latvia's largest lake – Luban – and fish ponds are one of the most important leisure and feeding sites of migratory waterbirds in the country, as well as one of the best breeding sites for 29 European specially protected bird species. In total, 224 bird species are observed in the area, 185 of which are also nested. In addition, a number of world-threatened bird species are present in the wetlands – Kikuts, cutter, sea eagle, fish eagle.

The Luban wetlands with protected river pallets, wilderness, swamps and boreal forests, park grassland etc. habitats are located in Rezekne, Award, Madona, Rugar, Vilnius, Varakalana, Luban and Gulbenes. Currently, the wetlands combine 12 existing natural reserve areas, including the addition of Luban lakes and biologically valuable lakes. And the Territorial Administration has been implemented by the Regional Administration of Latgale since 2011.

Invite any interested party to participate in the development of a plan and participate in a video conference in order to receive current information and provide a timely constructive view on the future management and use of the site!

The development of the plan is carried out in the framework of the natural census or the European Union Cohesion Fund project “establishing the preconditions for better preservation of biodiversity and the protection of ecosystems in Latvia” within the 5.4.2.1/16/I/001 of Regulation.
