Rezekne holds a tourism conference in EuroVelo11
Latgale local action groups, in cooperation with Latgale tourism association and tourism industry specialists, implement a project aimed at promoting the development of cycling in the Eastern Latvian region by marking the Velo route EuroVelo11. Thus, both the promotion of Eastern Latvia as a tourist destination of Europe and the promotion of the improvement of the ecological situation by travelling “green” and promoting the development of entrepreneurship in the condensed areas of the cycling route.
EuroVelo is a European Cypriot Federation project. It envisages the creation of a single network of cyclists covering the whole of Europe and through which cyclists can travel safely from one country to another. At present, there are 17 routes on the EuroVelo network, with a total length of more than 90 000 km. The EuroVelo routes are intended not only for professional cyclists but also for local daily activities of each country. From these 17 routes, three-EV10, EV11 and e13 are transported through Latvia.
The Welsh Route EV11 is brought into the territory of Latvia through the city of Zarasa (Zarasa), along the Nature Park “Medemu ezeraine” and along the coast of Sventes Lake to Daugavpils. From Daugavpils through the territory of the Nature Park “Daugava circle” to Kraslava, from which to Aglona and Dagda. The road leads through the Razna National Park to the Ludza and farther to the city of Rezekne, where EV11 behind the Rēzekne District is connected to THE Vidzeme section OF THE EV11. On the other hand, in order to allow Latgale travellers to explore the entire territory of Latgale, a regional cycling rotation with number 11 was created, which is taken from Ludza further along the eastern border to the Gulbene, where the Greenway velo network is connected.
In the course of implementation of the project, a strategy for the development of the Eastern Latvian cyclist has been developed, the author of which is Andris Klepers, Professor of Vidzeme High School, and the Latvian, Russian and English language card is also issued. You can view and download a towel card file electronically on the Latgale latgale.travel website, or by contacting the local tourism information centre, get the printed velvet guide. By the end of the active cycle, the towing rotation will be marked throughout its length, which is nearly 500 km, and a velvet marathon will be organised, which will also be an EV11 detection event.
The Latgale Region Tourism Association “Ezerland” is already calling for these summer adventures to choose to travel to Latvia and Latgale in a friendly manner - with a bicycle.
