It is particularly topical at the time of climate change where intensive fires can be experienced in a short period of time, which increases the risks of floods. '

The restoration of the state-of-the-art melioration systems plays an important role in increasing the security of the municipality and promoting entrepreneurship in rural areas, improving the quality of life of the population and the business environment. Following the implementation of such projects as Luban Lake Northern Damba, the value of natural areas protected by floods is significantly increased, attractiveness and more efficient use of the area is ensured.
Luban Lake is the largest lake in Latvia, while it is the largest lake in Europe and is located in Luban plains on the border of Rezekne and Madona. Its area is more than 80 square kilometres. As a result of the long-term rain of 2017, the water level in Luban Lake reached 94.84 metres and the western wind speed grew, the northern dam slope was rapidly washed, resulting in large leachate up to 2.40 m height, thus requiring the renovation of the dam.
