Sorting of waste in Rēzekne municipality
What is the sorting of waste? Waste sorting is the separation of municipal waste from the types of waste that can be recycled. The possibility of sorting waste is used for several years by the population of Rezekne. It is pleasant that the number of people engaged in active waste sorting is increasing every year. We are each waste 'producer', so it is our duty to think in the long term and to contribute to promoting environmental protection and the circular economy.
It is also important that, when sorting waste, we can save our money because the sorted waste is removed free of charge, while the tariff for exportation and disposal of unsorted municipal waste is increasing with each year, which is linked to an increase in the tax rate of natural resources.
Rēzeknes novada pašvaldība, sadarbībā ar SIA „ALAAS”, kopš 2016. gada aktīvi strādā pie atkritumu šķirošanas sistēmas izveides Rēzeknes novada teritorijā. Uz doto brīdī Rēzeknes novadā ir izveidoti 34 atkritumu šķirošanas punkti, kas atrodas Rēzeknes novada pagastos. Izveidotie punkti ir paredzēti visiem pagasta iedzīvotājiem.

The sorted waste is transported to a landfill site, where it is further sorted by certain fractions and prepared for recycling. Household waste should not be disposed of in sorting containers! The collected sorted waste SIA,, ALAAS '' is exported free of charge!
Most people know that batteries, medicines, electrical goods should not be disposed of in household waste containers, but often the sorting of glass, paper, plastic and metal raises certain questions.
There are things you can remember to sort the waste correctly:
1. The sorted material must be clean. Dirty material adversely affects the quality of the new material or product.
2. Flattening should be carried out as far as possible. When flattening the waste, a place in containers is put into place so that more sorted material can be placed in containers.
3. The sorted materials shall not be packaged because they may not be able to ascertain the contents of the graded material when carrying out the sorted material before checking. We recommend that you discard the sorted material without packaging.
4. Glass containers, mirrors, window glass shall not be disposed of in a glass container.
5. It should be recalled that there is no valid tetrapaka for processing because of the use of composite materials which are not used in the processing process.
6. Plastic toys should not be disposed of in container paper, plastic, metal.
7. In order to understand whether the plastic product is suitable for recycling, it is recommended to clarify the type of plastic material. It is indicated on the packaging with a special label, a number one of the arrows that contains the name of the material name. In container, paper, plastic, metal may be sorted by means of labels:
1 (PET), 2 (HDPE) and 4 (LDPE).
8. There are information labels on the sorting containers, please follow the instructions.
9. If there is doubt as to where to discard any particular waste or the material is suitable for recycling, it is preferable to discard it in a municipal waste container in order not to confuse the quality of the sorted material.

There is an area in the municipality of Rezekne for the acceptance of sorted waste located in the territory of the landfill site “Križeviks” (Ozolaines civil parish). For the acceptance of sorted waste, there are publicly available specially labelled metallic 1.1 m3 containers intended for the collection of sorted waste. In this area, free of charge, the residents of Rezekne District may hand over paper and paperboard, books, magazines, window glass, glass bottles and jars, metal, 5-off car tyres, polyethylene film, PET bottles, HDPE packaging, PP, PS packaging (plastic packaging bearing signs)
large-scale wood waste (old furniture), waste electrical and electronic equipment in unmixed form (e.g. TV, phens, computers, etc.), engine oils and oil filters (5 pieces per year).
