Company of the Year – 2017
"SIA" LMKO (Pušas parish), the representatives of Marie and Andris Runtovski presented the company's history, telling them that they had initially had a farm “flap”, but there had been time to reorganise the farm into a limited company. The name includes sectors in which the enterprise operates: L – agriculture, M – forestry, K – wood processing, O – coal production. The owners have told them that they have also experienced difficult times when they worked hard, responsibly fulfilled their contractual obligations, but they did not receive payment. In this context, the unsuccessful cooperation with the “Tricata” cooperative society is mentioned. Currently, while working in the dairy sector, the company recognises the cooperation with THE LPC “Viļāni”. One of the areas where the owners have also implemented the project supported by the Rural Support Service is the fruit-growing (within the framework of the project, a apple garden is established in the area of 1 ha). The dairy farm and milk house, as well as the fruit store, were shown to the Commission.

We decided that we need to produce products with added value, and we have been working for 10 years to manufacture houses from pine and Siberian lapegles glued wood, as well as produce other materials and blanks from wood. SIA “contact” employs 17 local residents. The company's production is traded both in Latvia and also exported to Spain, Germany, Scotland and other countries.
When building houses, the company chooses new materials, most of which are glued brushes from Siberian lapegles, which is unique – durable, long-term and human health-friendly material that is well “elpo” and has positive energy. Similarly, the company also owns fowls, footsteps, tables, small wooden structures.
SIA “connector” offers customers a full service pack ranging from the development of an individual project to the completion of the full construction process of the house.
SIA Gravtex (Griškānu civil parish) was founded in 2012. The initial intention was to produce fences, fence panels, but it soon became clear that it was too narrow to take into account the needs and solvency of potential customers, so the ideas for a new product were further sought. The company now produces decorative wooden panels, which can be used both as an indoor interior element and as an outdoor decorator.
The EAFRD (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development) project funding under THE LEADER programme was acquired by production facilities, including CNC cutter. In 2016, SIA Gravtex participated in the competition “Export and Innovation Award 2016” organised by Latvian Investment Development Agency (LATVIAN Investment Development Agency) and the Ministry of Economics and won the award in the nomination “industrial design”. 2017 marked the participation in the building exhibition “house 1” in Riga, the theme week in Milan (Italy), the architectural and design exhibition “VISION London” (Uk), the design exhibition “ID” and “Habitare” in Helsinki (Finland), the exhibition “Timber Expo” in Birmingham (Uk), the building material exhibition “the Big 5” in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). In order to create efficient, customer-friendly exhibitions at foreign exhibitions, a thorough research is carried out on the type of production and design to be offered more effectively in a particular country. For example, by creating a decorative panels offering in the United Arab Emirates, it was found that this country's “aggressive” climate was not worth offering an outdoor decoration.
As a production raw material, the plywood produced by THE local company RSEZ SIA “Verems” is used. The emphasis is on the use of environmentally friendly material. For example, “tree is alive!”, “tree lives and makes living!”.
In 2017, the production of innovative products - 3D panels has been introduced. They are made from wood, MDF and birch plywood. Head of company Andris Filipenoks notes that 3D panels are also a great opportunity for acoustic space finishing as they have a sound insulating function.
Half of the total production is sold on the domestic market, the rest being exported. There are four employees in the permanent plant, but additional employees are employed on the basis of the need for contracts. Outsourcing is also used, such as the manufacture and processing of metal components. Design services in the company are provided by a designer who graduated from the Rēzekne Technology Academy and studies at the Master's degree in Vilnius (Lithuania).
SIA “Vilards AGRO” Ozolaines parish is a modern agricultural company. The farm office is located in Rezekne, Jupatovka Street, but the land to be treated, 225 ha, in the surrounding parish in both Rezekne and Ludza District. Company manager Wilmārs Ostesh says that the farm is only working for a fourth season, growing summer and winter wheat, summer barley, oats, buckwheat, peas, permanent grassland. In order to intensify the production process, modern agricultural techniques are acquired through both credit and European Union project funds.
“Williards AGRO” has participated on several occasions in the events organised BY THE People's House OF Ozolaines and by demonstrating the harvesting technique at the harvest festival, both AT Ozolaines parish festivals and in the day of the Rēzekne municipality, along with Latgale retro/auto/moto club participants.

The head of the company says, “We're doing the whole cycle.” There are only two employees throughout the year, four in the season. This year there was heavy autumn, rain and floods had difficulty harvesting the harvest.
