The Gigalava primary school participates in THE ERASMUS + project
For a second year, Erasmus + THAT 229 project “Share, Explore, enrich - SEE for Better life” is being implemented at the Graduate School of Gaigalava ("research, promotion, sharing - creates a better future!). Unfortunately, at this time, the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 have affected the activities of the project. They, for the most part, had to redesign and replace a variety of practices with the use OF ICT. However, as the disease spread, we finally also had the opportunity to meet our project partners from Italy, Croatia, Poland and Turkey. In the period from 20-26 March, four pupils - Lorete Lucjanova, Elina Poča, Dairis Rutuļs, Janis Taukuļs, as well as teacher Ilze Kuhaļska, attended a project partner school meeting in Rijeka.
The main theme of the project appointment was the “Treasure Hunt Quest” game (including the search for outsourcing through directions). This game was played in both the school corridors using QR codes and the Rijeka children's library, and the directions were also searched in the centre of Rijeka. In carrying out these tasks, students not only learned about Rijeka's cultural heritage, but also shared their knowledge of films, literature, authors, both world-famous and only their own country. Also, creative workshops were organized, where students learned the ancient script of Croatian, called “Bashka”, and tried to write their name using these letters, composed presentations for the music of their country, worked with ICT technologies, participated in football friendship. Prior to the meeting, the homework had to be completed - a presentation of the legend of his country. We chose to tell the legend of Rēzekne's roses, as well as to teach the others to dance one of our People's dances “zam uzula nasiedeju”, which gained great attention.
As the main objective of the project was to encourage students to see, explore and explore cultural, history and geography wealth in their surroundings, museum visits were organised during the meeting, where pupils learned of the sugar recycling process, could track the development of computers and computer games from the beginning (incidentally, all computer games still work and we had the chance to play them). There were also educational excursions with gida narrative, along with Rijeka and its closest towns, Trsata and Opatia, which are significant with their cultural and historical sites and legends. But as the most memorable excursion, the pupils mentioned the visit of Croatian treasure, the oldest and most national park - Plitwice lakes, which surprised their water wealth and water clarity.
All these activities enabled us to better know Croatia and its culture, people, lifestyles, while collaborating in international groups, improving the skills of pupils' communication and self-presentation and knowledge of English, as the main language of communication was English.
The next project meeting is planned at the beginning of June, to which teachers are going to learn new methods of teaching students about their country's wealth and how to bring more European dimension into schools.
All project activities are financed by the Erasmus + Lifelong Learning Programme.
