The Latgale Planning Region launches an open project competition “Support for the implementation of business ideas in Latgale” within THE FRAMEWORK OF THE EEA Grants 2014-2021 programme “Local development, poverty reduction and cultural cooperation”.
- on 17 May of the year, the Latgale Planning Region has launched the application FOR an open project competition “Local development, poverty reduction and cultural cooperation” of THE EEA Grants 2014-2021 programme “Support for the implementation of business ideas in Latgale”, where it will be possible to receive support for business development by 2024, implementing new business ideas and creating jobs in Latgale region.
The Head of the Latgale Planning Region Administration Iveta Kalina – Tahne emphasizes that the Latgale Planning Region is a very responsible working act – we are the first and only planning region that, thanks TO THE EEA Grants, can offer entrepreneurs support to implement their projects at the time when the recovery from the crisis caused by the pandemic and the grants for business development are not widely available. This support will continue to implement the action plan for the economic growth of Latgale region. More than half a million EURO will be invested in the development of the region and the promotion of employment. Although the funding available for one project is not large, the high co-financing of the aid makes it very attractive to small businesses. We want to particularly thank the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development for co-operation in the preparation of the grant scheme. '
Within the framework of the project competition, almost all business areas will be supported and any natural and legal person (small or micro-enterprise) who carries out his economic activity in Latgale region may apply for support. Project applicants will be able to receive support for the creation of new products or services, the improvement of existing products, the substantial increase in production capacity or the substantial change in production processes as well as the improvement of the efficiency of existing services in the implementation of a new business idea.
The programme co-financing available for the competition is EUR 540 000 and the co-financing available for one project is between 5000 and 10 000 EURO. The aid intensity of co-financing shall not exceed 55% of the total eligible costs of the project.
All project tender documents are published on the website of Latgale Planning Region, under the gravel scheme “Support for the implementation of business ideas in Latgale” https://lpr.gov.lv/lv/regionalie_projekti/eez-fi-programma/grantu-shema-atbalsts-biznesa-ideju-istenosanai-latgale/#.YMn5X6gzaUk as well AS EEA Grants website https://eeagrants.lv/regionala-attistiba-un-kultura/projektu-konkursi .

EEA Grants are the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to a green, competitive and inclusive Europe. There are two main objectives: reducing economic and social disparities in Europe and strengthening bilateral relations between donor countries and 15 EU countries in central Europe, South Europe and the Baltic States.
Three donor countries cooperate closely with THE EU on the basis of a European Economic Area Agreement (EEA). Donor countries have granted €3.3 billion from 1994 to 2014. In the period 2014-2021, THE EEA grant aid will reach eur 1,55 billion.
Priorities of this period:
#1 innovation, research, education and competitiveness
#2 social inclusion, youth employment and poverty reduction
#3 Environment, energy, climate change and low-emission economy
#4 culture, civil society, good governance and fundamental rights
#5 Justice and Home Affairs
Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway jointly finance EEA Grants whose contributions are based on their GDP. Eligibility for grants meets the criteria laid down IN THE EU Cohesion Fund for Member States with an internal gross domestic product (GDP) of less than 90% of THE EU average.
