Events dedicated to the day of Latgale wetlands will take place throughout February
The regional administration of the Nature Protection Administration (hereinafter – administration) in February calls for a number of measures devoted to the world wetlands day and its theme is “wetlands for sustainable urban environment” this year.
On Sunday, February 4, Hiking of Nature Protection Officers will take place throughout Latvia and one of them is planned to be heated in the Tych Nature Reserve.
“Hiking is a great opportunity for the topic of wetlands to be updated in an appropriate environment - in the Tychelles swamp, which is one of Ramsar's conventions in Latvia. It will be a unique opportunity for the wilderness of the wilderness to walk a warm path in winter, to learn about the diversity of the species living in the wetlands and their role in the preservation of the common ecosystem, as well as to enjoy the silence and the feeling of one of Latvia's natural wealth stories, the Regina Indriķe of the“ Razna ”of the Nature Education Centre of the State of the story.
The attendance of the Tych Nature Reserve Management Officer is authorised during the period from 1 June to 31 October. Summer and autumn are the time people prefer to go into nature. This time we call for a one-off chance to get acquainted with the Teich swamp in winter, says R. Indriķe.
Gathering for the day of the wetlands on February 4 at 11.00 in the parking area at the silk trail (Madona municipality, Mötrienas civil parish, GPS X: 644126, Y: 6282048 Lat: 56.6603321, Lon: 26.3514100). Participation in the hiking is free, but the number of participants is limited, so we call for pre-registration by calling MR Indriķe by phone 29139677.
Activities devoted to the themes of wetlands in Latgale will take place almost all February. The purpose of activities is to introduce internationally important wetlands in Latgale, their protection and management. On the side of Latgale, three Ramsares Convention sites are located – Luban wetlands, Tikči swamp and big Pelechar swamp.
Friday, February 2 at 10.00 and 13.00 will take place in the Luban wetlands organised by the Luban Wetlands Information Centre in cooperation with the Nature Education Centre “Razna”. Students and educators of the secondary school of the Madona municipality, Barkava, and the awards will participate in them.
Informative events will also take place on 7 February at Mayor Oscar's primary school and at Luban High School, 9 February - Varakalans High School and Rwanda Basic School, 12 February at Berzpils High School, while the event cycle will be closed on 26 February AT Kaunatas High School.
The International Wetlands Day is celebrated since the signing of the Ramsar or Wetlands Convention in 1971. The Convention is the only international environmental protection treaty devoted to a particular ecosystem and its mission is the protection and prudent use of wetlands. Latvia acceded to this Convention in 1995.
Wetlands as ecosystems are very important in the preservation of biodiversity and are not merely marshes, as it is more common to think. The wetlands are also palms, marshes and peat swamps, marshes, coastal and palm meadows.
