By November 1, it is possible to apply for the Latvian cultural canon competition “Cultural Canon Ambassador to Latvia's next hundredth.”
Students of classes 10-12 of the Latvian general educational institutions and the oldest courses of the art and music schools are invited to apply for a sixth Latvian cultural canon competition, in which young people will have the opportunity to form a cultural canon home page and media content dedicated to the centuries of Latvia.
For the sixth year, the Latvian cultural academy provides the opportunity for young people of secondary school to participate in the promotion and communication of cultural heritage by organising the Latvian Cultural Canon Competition. Every year the subject of the competition is changed by offering students a variety of cultural events, cultural heritage, traditions and tasks related to the cultural canon of Latvia. This year, the contest mentions itself with the motto “cultural canon stories, news and news to Latvian people in the next hundredth year”, as a result of a new cultural canon home page and media content dedicated to the centuries of Latvia.
The competition is traditionally held in three stages. The first round in all regions of Latvia will take place in the third week of November (November 13-17). These teams will have to be familiar with the Latvian National Library's updated website of the Latvian Cultural Canon, select one value/cultural artifact, carry out an in-depth research to create their offer to replenish the canon website. Two better teams will be selected in each region to participate in the second and third round of the competition. The second round will be a seminar where pupils will learn the basic principles for the development of media content. On the other hand, in January, when the final of the competition takes place, the team will receive a task that will test the finalists' erudition in the context of the Latvian cultural canon. It will provide for the development of cultural heritage and media content related to the cultural canon of Latvia for a particular media with a specific message in the context of the Latvian centenary and the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
In order to apply for a competition, a team must be set up in three pupils and one teacher and, by 1 November 2017, fill in the form of the application online: http://ej.uz/Kanona_konkurss_2017.
