Teaching excursion “travel in the world of professions”
As part of the European Social fonda Project No. 8.3.5.0/16/I/001 “career support in general and vocational education institutions”, a career development support event was organised at THE end of the school year for students of classes 5, 6, 7 and 8 OF THE Dricānu secondary school. The purpose of excursion is to learn Latvian businesses, to see representatives of different professions in the working environment and to learn more about entrepreneurship. Latgale companies were visited this time. In all companies, students were welcome, introduced to the working environment, everyday, practically able to test the various equipment needed to work.
The first staging was SIA “Latgale vegetable logistics”, located in Carlos District, Mežvidu parish. The development and operation of the greenhouse complex was told by the work manager Renata Reinika - Lucjanova, who has been working in the Mezvids greenhouses since the opening of the company. The company has already 7 full years of operation this year, and “Mežvidu tomatoes” is a recognizable product in Latvian supermarkets. Successful business activities are provided by agronomers, growers, marketing and advertising specialists etc. Students could not only see a greenhouse complex but also ask questions of interest to themselves and receive comprehensive answers.
There is a well-known “bee house” in the parish of Mežvidu. Its owners – Vaira and Janis Sicans – have created a “bee house” as a tourist and relaxation object. The housekeepers introduced the professions of beekeepers, demonstrating the skills of a man who wants to devote his daily care to bees. The pupils also had the opportunity to learn about the diversity and value of bees, as well as the wax to make a candle, bringing all their good thoughts into it. Unforgettable, every student had the chance to be in a house specially designed to be able to see, hear and feel the bees, but they are not in any way attached to a man and can't be yelled.
The last subject of the training excursion was Z/S “Kotiņi”, Vilaka municipality in Squilbert parish, where Roland Keith was met by pupils. Under his guidance, the entire 3000 ha-wide holding, which operates from 1992 onwards, was considered. In narrative and equipment, the demonstration of space was told about agriculture, the modern equipment and computers that help grain and other agricultural plants to be shared in excellent quality. It was particularly exciting to explore very different, modern agricultural techniques. The Z/S “Kotiņi” also produces food from grain harvested. There is a great love, genuine concern, persistence and quality in every farming activity.
It is valuable to go and see that, even in our native Latgale, there are people who develop entrepreneurship, deal with their hearts and provide jobs for people of different professions.
