The teachers sought answers to the question of how to teach children to learn?
The question of how to teach children to learn? is particularly topical today when we are launching a path towards a competency approach in education. From 10 to 12 August, Lucia Ranāne McKashan held an intensive training course - the camps “teach to learn: HEY! In the lessons offered by THE EU!, the teacher of the Rezekne municipality searched for answers and solutions to this problem.
The camp programme was designed to provide an insight into the targeted use of different skills, but also to demonstrate the importance of interdisciplinarity in achieving effective learning outcomes. The following educational approaches were taken into account when planning the intensive training course: the camp programme:
- Student-oriented learning: based on the knowledge of the versatile intellect;
- Research learning: experience-based, strengthening content learning in context, connecting, merging themes;
- Interdisciplinary learning: by extending the boundaries of traditional scientific disciplines, looking at cases in total;
- Learning of systemic, critical and holistic thinking;
- Creative learning that is not based on cliches.
Long Cushner, the coach of the “creativity palace”, was guided by the “EXPEDITION”, literacy and text analysis skills in which information was collected, collected, structured and analysed. During the course of the lesson, every teacher could find a suitable methodology for himself, not only for lessons, but also for the work of a class nurse.
The Alūksne municipality's high school teacher's League, Krūmiņa, is popular in Latvia as an INNOVATION distributor, “EXPERIMENT”, showed how information technologies can contribute to structuring, analysing, etc. of learning content, while creating enthusiasm in pupils.
The development of research skills offered “INTELLIGENCE” in which teachers learned ways of addressing research problems, planning and experimenting, analysing and comparing results. In the course of the activities of the activities of the Children's Optional School and the 45 th Secondary School of Riga, Marika Melne demonstrated very clearly how complex definitions and tasks can be made clear, as the understanding of the information is much better in the long-term memory.
Ideas for improvement, strengthening and use of mathematical skills were dealt with in the activities “COMPUTING”, which were led by the Optional Schools of the gifted children and the former Smiltene Gymnasium teacher Arija Vilnius. Under the guidance of an experienced pedagogy, teachers sought ways to learn skills to understand and organize numerical, quantitative information and make useful conclusions.
At the time of the joint meetings, the discovery of teachers' personal pedagogical experience should not be left, so there was a “EXPERIENCE HERBARIUM WORKSHOP” where joint forces were searched and found answers to the issues raised by teachers from the school life:
- how to teach the child logical thinking, deliberately read and head bills?
- how to help the child learn foreign languages?
- how to motivate, motivate students to achieve higher results?
In turn, “COMPUTING EXPEDITION” and “INTELLIGENCE EXPERIMENT” were created as interdisciplinary activities in which one topic was viewed and implemented from various PivotTables. Thus, teachers received answers to questions: what? Where? In what way? etc. Of course, the answers turned out to be simple and each one.
The evening sessions were organized as a self-growth training exercise for teachers, in which both the “creativity palace”, under the direction of the treasure, was strengthened by the power of life, and the dance biodées, the artist and the director of the school headquarters, was painted by a soul garden.
In summarising the teachers' feedback, it should be concluded that 3 days spent meaningful and educated a number of ideas and initiatives. Thank the leaders for the interesting and exciting lessons, and Lucia Rananes McKashan's office for high school headquarters and collectors for their diligence and affection! And, of course, thank all the participants for their time together! I wish teachers to be able to use their courses in practice.
