The development of Razna National Park should contribute to further interaction between natural and human beings and cooperation between institutions
The development of Razna National Park (hereinafter – RNP) as a conservation area of natural values, a tourist destination and an attractive environment for local residents are only possible in future natural and human interaction, as well as in co-operation of various institutions and areas.
On Thursday, 23 November, the participants of the RNP conference “First 10 years of Razna National Park” came to this conclusion. Representatives of local governments, natural and tourism experts, researchers and planners met at a conference organised by the Nature Protection Administration (hereinafter – administration).
The head of the Government Latgale Regional Administration, Anda Zeize, expressed that public attitudes and understanding are invaluable in order to continue to be able to maintain and develop the Razna National Park by balancing the needs of natural and human beings.
DURING the first ten years OF THE RNP, much progress has been made in building the visibility and visual identity of the area, in order to organize the infrastructure, but a large number of challenges are still ahead. MR Zeize thanked him for his responsiveness and cooperation with local people who had responded responsibly on issues related to the development of the park, as well as local governments and other cooperation partners.
Researchers and field experts focused on the development of tourism and the preservation of nature, recognising the need to promote interaction between science and natural management and the involvement of people in natural conservation works. An example is the management of lakes - the mowing of cane and the creation of wind corridors - which helps to maintain both landscape and bathing sites and is useful for the population of different species of protected species.
By developing tourism and creating an attractive living environment for local people, the common denominators between nature protection and economic development should be sought, as well as the co-operation of local governments, public institutions and non-governmental organisations in Razna National Park as a common destination and promotion of tourism destination.
At the end of the conference there was a festival of the opening of Anne Ranāne and Andra Eglyte's book “Razna National Park 10 years”. The book summarises the stories of local people about life in the national park, farming in the area, the nature of natural values and cultural heritage.
Razna National Park was established in 2007 to preserve natural values, as well as the typical Latgale cultural landscape in a wide area of Latgale. Razna National Park is a place to know Latgales – the natural and cultural historical values of the blue lakes, to enjoy the beauty of the landscape, to evaluate the hospitality of Latgalians, to explore the skills and traditions of the post-peoples of the generations.
The conference is organised in the “nature and man” project. Then and now. In order to inform the public about events and initiatives that have strengthened and further strengthen the natural values of Latvia, three scientific practical conferences are held within the framework of the project. A conference dedicated to the National Park of Ķemeri was held in October, while the twentieth anniversary of the North_North_Biosphere Reserve will be held on 30 November.
The project is funded by the Latvian Environment Protection Fund.
