Gaigalavas primary school students and teachers in Erasmus + projects visit Romania and Poland
The second half of September was a busy time AT Gaigalavas in elementary school - pupils and teachers went to Romania and Poland. This was possible thanks to two Erasmus + + 229 projects that have been implemented at school for a third year.
The first visit to Romania took place in the “Key to My career by having Intellectual Norms (KEYCHAIN)” (your knowledge - key to your future) and it ran from 19 to 24 September. The meeting took place in one of the largest Romanian cities in Cluj Napoca, and included Lorete Lucjanova, Evita Macāne, Elina Pocha, Rebekah Slegbarde, and the teacher Ineta Cross, Ilze Kuhaļska and Jekaterina Marmiuzva. The other participants in the project from Serbia, Turkey and Sweden were also attended by this meeting.
The KEYCHAIN of the project is to increase the competence of pupils IN STEM learning subjects (mathematics, natural sciences, technology) and therefore, during visits, a large emphasis is placed on the attendance of various STEM-related schools and businesses. We had the opportunity to visit Accenture Software Industrial Solutions, one of the leading companies IN the world. We also visited universities - the faculty of agriculture and veterinary medicine, the faculty of geography, the faculty of technology, as well as the university observatory and the zoo museum. During these visits, we saw a variety of scientific experiments, learning how probiotics are being developed, the way of scientific research to a finished product, and what a representative of the profession is doing as a climatologist. Amazing, but the interest of large pupils and teachers was earned by the visit of the university library, where we had the opportunity to see how work and materials in the library were organized, from ancient times to today. In the library we saw a book elevator installed at the beginning of the previous century and still running. During the visit, we also visited “Elf Private School”, where it was pleasantly surprising how much it was at school to be comfortable and exciting not only in hours, but also in intermediate times (e.g. swimming nets in the school yard, small battles between floors). And, of course, at the time of the entire visit, the work of all the students of the project Member States was shared with various project activities, creating blogs, presenting the day-to-day work of the participating school.
On the other hand, the second visit took place in Poland and the project “Share, Explore, enrich - SEE for Better life” ('research, promotion, sharing - creates a better future!). The meeting took place in Vasilkow (Wasilkow) from 26 to 30 September and included Lāsma Laizāne, Christer beech, Agnes Zapāne and Madara Star, as well as Director of the School Ināra Usis and teacher Ilze Kuhaļska. The other participants in the project from Croatia, Italy and Turkey were also attended by this meeting.
The main theme of the project was the introduction of natural wealth. Therefore, we had the opportunity to play an orientation game in the nearby Knyszyn forest, to participate in the creative workshops in Koryciny village, where the various food and cosmetics products from natural waste are top. Another visit to the programme included the visit to Białystok, Tikocina (Tykocin), the ievērojamāko site of the Suskile (Supraśl). And as well as other visits, there was also a group of pupils at school - national dance learning, painting of fabric bags, Minecraft creative workshop.
The Erasmus + project meetings are also important because the introduction of one another, living in almost one week in hotels, breaks stereotypes about other nationalities and cultural traditions, introduces new friends, improved foreign language knowledge, acquired new knowledge and experience, improved communication skills and skills to collaborate with different people in the same group. This will be useful for students in the future, as such experience only broadens the vision of human vision and promotes openness to the new and unusual.
The next meeting of both projects will take place in November 2022 in Turkey and in Sicily in March 2023.
The project is funded under the Erasmus + programme for lifelong learning.
