A unique illustration of the illustrations of folk songs has been issued!
The new school year expects a book that will be useful for teachers in not only one object and already inherited the reputation of “Latgale white book”, as the story of time, “when people lived in keeping with the laws of God, work and nature”. It is an illustration of the illustrations of Latvian folk songs, which includes around 300 Latgale artist Jura gaigala's sibilical drawing, which reveals our ancient traditions, tools and Latvian Living. The performance of Jura gaigala in the illustration of folk songs is regarded as unique, since nothing has been done by any Latgale artist and in terms of the number of illustrations – no one else in Latvia. This is a huge contribution to the preservation of folklore, Latvian identity and cultural historical evidence, as the drawings he has shown in his childhood, but he has carried out a thorough research work on archaeological and ethnographic materials so that the details are displayed as accurately as possible. The book is made more valuable by the analytical additions of the artist's work, which were provided by the invited professionals: Professor of the Rēzekne Technology Academy, doctorate of philology sciences in Latvian folkloristics Angelika Jusko-Schtekele; head of the art department of Latgale cultural history museum, mg. Design, Bac. art. Inese Dundure; Maltas History museum collection artist-graphic artist Bac. art. Jana Indrucane.
Juris Gaigals (1931 –2018) was born in Rēzekne District at the Rēzekne parish in Kovawski, near Maltas, studied at schools in Daugavpils and swamps, graduating from Rezekne High School 1 st High School (1951), following the completion of the Latvian State University's Faculty of Engineering (1956) as a constructor (initially in the field of mechanical engineering, later in vacuum equipment). In 2000, he returned to Latgale and lived in Rezekne (a summer accompanied by a relative OF Maltā, where he was painting). So far, he is more known as the beauty landscape of Latgale, but he has been a versatile personality (photographed, danced, much read, traveled, etc.) and will also focus on other art facets – waterways, botanical illustrations and as one of the rare artists of Latgale – also for illustration of peoples songs.
The idea of creating this book came shortly before the artist's departure in 2018, when he allowed me to look at his more than 700 drawings – in Latvian and Latgalian people's songs. The book “Jura gaigala rainbow” is therefore a fulfillment of the artist's dream, because he unfortunately “did not see interested sponsors” during his life. The dream was filled with the administration of Rēzekne Municipality Maltas parish administration, the municipality of Rezekne (funding for the small cultural and tourism project competition), the businessman Peter Ragausha (USA), the Gunar Smeyer (Malta) and Igor Lucianova (Rezekne), and the artist's daughter Daces and granddaughters Ieva's financial support. (It must be noted, unfortunately, that in the Cultural Capital Project tenders, this idea was three times rejected.)
The opening festival of the book was held AT Maltas in the Museum of History on 23 July and included a new generation of the municipality: Feimaņu dance set “Vimyns” (Guuntis Tjarvja), the musical notion was created by Silmalas parish resident Laura Svikša (the 3 rd course student of THE Ivanova Rēzekne music secondary school), the Latgalic J. gaigala memory of the rainbow, which is included in the introduction of the book, read Lauris Deksnis, while the role of the small artist in the role of the small artist was Artemis Borisovs, who, sitting in the tree of the tree, felt a beautiful rainbow painting. Similarly, there was an exhibition of the artist's painting in the museum courtyard (the people carried the paintings that J. Gaigal gave them), but the museum could look at the exhibition of the previously unexposed waterways (it would be a travelling exhibition that would go further to Rezekne), as well as the various objects of the gigald family of the museum, the witness of a bright time. The opening of the book was a symbol of symbolic rainbow's seven colour ribbons and was entrusted to the people most closely associated with the publication of the book.
Thank the artist, thank God, thank the people. Let this unique performance go in the world, so that adults are reminded of the Latvian real Living, and for the new generation to get to know it in colourful, sibilical drawings!

What is the special book “Jura gaigala rainbow”?
- The book contains 432 pages: 95 pages about the artist's life and creative versatility, the other 337 pages – illustrations of peoples songs.
- From 1973 to 2011, J. Gaigals created (self-selected, illustrated, in one copy) 9 album art albums. They are stored in the museum of Latgale cultural history (6 albums), Maltas in the museum of history (1 album) and the daughter Daces (2 albums).
- The illustration of the illustrations contains the sequence of sections selected by the author and the most pronounced drawings that reflect ancient traditions, tools and Latvian Living.
- At the beginning of each album, a professional analytical view (from a folklore and artistic point of view) is provided.
- Many of the memories are in Latgalian language, as well as the names of Latgalians, which were used by J. Gaigala in childhood and Latgale.
- Each chapter is given by a handful of peoples from J. gaigala albums, but at the end of each chapter, either the artist or the knowledge of the book.
- Information on the illustrators of Latvian folk songs, focusing more on those whose books have been at THE home of J. Gaigala.
- At the end of the book is a short story of the book content and the artist's story in English, French and Russian.
