In the last week, from 17 to 20 March, a virtual hackon HackForce was held in Latvia, which aimed to seek solutions to the challenges posed by the coronavir crisis. Among the winners is the movement #hanks, a voluntary network that wants to help free food and other goods to those who are in a risk group or at home in quarantine. Get #anning help anyone by calling 25661991 or visiting a website www.paliec-majas.lv.
Since the emergency situation has been announced in Latvia, thousands of residents are in self-isolation and quarantine. Self-insulation is particularly important for elderly people, as well as those with chronic disease. Even a simple move to a store might be particularly dangerous for these people. In an equally critical situation, people who need to stay in a 14-day self-isolation after their return from abroad, but no family support is available.
In order to help these people and, at the same time, protect other people from potential contamination with Covid-19, #palatm also offers voluntary assistance in the supply of food and household goods, as well as in the exportation of domestic animals for walking and emotional support. #palatm specifically calls for assistance to those who do not use digital technologies and are in the Covid-19 risk group by telephone 25661991. Similarly, neighbours, carers and social workers are invited to encourage co-workers to call and apply for assistance.
In order to ensure as much aid as possible, #palatm calls for volunteers who want to help with the supply of food and other goods and other daily needs, by expressing their participation in the movement website www.paliec-majas.lv or in the Facebook group. Any resident who has not been established in Covid-19, who has not been abroad for the last 14 days, and has not been in contact with a possible Covid-19 patient may apply for an application.
The homepage is available in Latvian and is currently being developed in other languages, but calls in both Latvian and Russian and English are accepted now.
For movement #anning:
#palatm is a project supported by state, local government and Latvian companies, which operates for the benefit of the company, so the supply of goods is free of charge and the payment for the goods should be individually agreed with the volunteer providing the aid. The project was ranked among the five best HackForce hastons, receiving support from Latvian Investment and Development Agency, Ministry of Economics and Latvian mobile phone, Swedbank, Ubiquity, TechHub Riga, Microsoft and Ogilvy. Partners: Sonido Call Centre, Latvian Saarland Association, Fast Latvia and Mobilly.
