The Rēzekne municipality was visited by the Ambassador of Great Britain in Latvia

On April 6-7, the Ambassador of Great Britain to Latvia Paul Brummel CGS visited the visit visit of Rēzekne District. At the beginning of the visit, Mr Bramela met the President of the Rēzekne council, Monweed Schwarz, and the Vice-President of the Council Eric Turumnieki. During the negotiations, several topical topics were discussed: the situation in the world and the support of the municipality of Rezekne to Ukraine, the accommodation of Ukrainian refugees, the implementation of administrative territorial reform in the municipality and other topical issues. The Ambassador's life was interested in the traditions of Latgale and the most important festival of Rezekne, including the days of podiers, expressing the wish to be in the municipality of Rezekne in the near future.

The next day, the British Ambassador visited Nautre High School, where a Community Resource Centre established by the British Council (British Council) was established in 2020. It operates the population of different ages, interests, professions. The Education Initiative Centre (IIC) initiates and performs the defence of non-governmental organisations and the Community interest. The Ambassadors were interested in how local communities, non-governmental organisations, together with the British Council, organise the implementation of various projects and activities in Latvia.

The British Council is a British organization specialising in international cultural and educational opportunities. It operates in more than 100 countries: promoting wider knowledge of the United Kingdom and English; promoting cultural, scientific, technological and educational cooperation with the United Kingdom. The British Council provides both people and non-governmental organisations with a more inclusive, open and successful world, as well as combining local opportunities with world themes - from social action to diversity as well as addressing key issues for young people. Community projects shall be implemented in partnership with local and international organisations which are experts in key issues such as youth activities, social entrepreneurship, cultural relations, equal opportunities and diversity, migration, social inclusion and engagement, and civic participation. Each year, British Council representation in Latvia, together with various partners, implement more than 40 projects, one of which is to help integrate into society and actively participate in decision-making in their communities. In order to achieve the wider public, as well as to support local Community initiatives for a more cohesive society, the “active Community” programme of the British Council in Latvia launched a project competition aimed at supporting local Community projects encouraging and supporting representatives of the various groups of society to launch Community initiatives that provide positive and lasting changes to the Community, and encourage the Community representatives to express their views, actively engage and participate in Community processes and activities, stimulating cooperation between the various groups of society and the Community, contributing to the social cohesion of the community. Two such centres have been established in Rēzekne District - Signagala and Nautre.

Ambassador met Nautrene High Schools who were active in the 2022 project.Involvement of inactive young people in the activities of the Nautrene Community by promoting new public initiatives“(project manager Anita Ludborja). Young people actively debated in English about the implementation of projects, future opportunities and the development of the municipality. The“ Duke of Edinburgh ”was jointly planted for the 70 th anniversary of the Queen of Great Britain. The trees will be planted in each of Latvia's historic provinces. Latgale was the first. The ambassador was interested in the computerised embroidery of the project. Young people showed a job under the direction of Teacher Ingoon Ludborge. The Ambassador, with the team, looked at the performance of the Community's handkerchiefs during the winter period - knitted wool stockings, gloves, cheques (leader Elsa mache). The ambassador to the Ambassador was caused by a drying machine where fresh pine, spruce buds and shoots were drying. The tasting of spring herbal tea took place. The Ambassador became pleased with the cooperation of the Nautre Community with the British Council, congratulating young people with a good knowledge of English and a creative approach to the cohesion of the Community.

The Ambassador of Great Britain to Latvia, Paul Bramel, was appointed as the Ambassador of her Majesty to the Republic of Latvia in July 2021. The British Embassy in Latvia represents the government of the United Kingdom, in its relations with the Latvian Government. It also provides a series of other British interests in Latvia based on mutually beneficial cooperation in the framework of basic, political, trade, security and economic sectors.
