SIA “ALAAS” is preparing to put the waste sorting and pre-treatment complex into service

In the near future, SIA “ALAAS” is preparing to put into service a waste sorting and pre-treatment complex located in the territory of the landfill site “Križeviks”. Positive opinions of the institutions have been received for putting into service of the object. Construction works were launched in January 2013 and completed in September 2014. Construction works were carried out by SIA “SCO CENTRE” contract “design, construction work and technological equipment supply project“ Development of the infrastructure of the East Latgale regional waste disposal site “Križevņiki” in the framework OF THE II card ”, for a contractual amount of EUR 2 997 166.
The design, construction, supply of equipment, including:
 of waste sorting lines and pre-treatment facilities (acquisition of technological equipment for the disposal of waste) — construction of waste sorting and pre-treatment complex with a capacity of up to 20 thousand tonnes per year, a complex will provide functions such as waste shredding and sieving, metal separation, manual sorting. The complex is equipped with container transportation equipment and large containers. The composting of unsorted biodegradable waste will be carried out using existing infrastructure (composting area);
 the capacity of the reversing osmosis infiltrate collection and treatment plant (increase in the capacity of the infiltrate treatment plant — installation of reverse osmosis treatment plants with a capacity of 5 m3/h);
 of a landfill gas collection and disposal system (construction of a landfill gas collection and disposal system which includes the construction of the horizontal gas extraction system, the necessary pumps, the construction of the tuning stations and the disposal equipment — the acquisition of the torch).
The supervision of construction works was carried out by THE “Geo Consultants” contract “construction engineering supervision of the project“ Development of the infrastructure of the eastern Latgale regional waste disposal site “Križevņiki” in the framework OF THE II card ”, for a contractual amount of EUR 83 138.
The waste sorting and pre-treatment complex was built in the framework of the project “Development of the infrastructure of the eastern Latgale regional waste disposal site Križevņiki”. The objective of the project is to ensure sustainable development, which involves reducing the environmental impacts of waste management and the rational use of natural resources.
The project is expected to achieve the following environmental quality improvements:
• The created waste sorting and pre-treatment complex from 2015 will ensure that:
- the total amount of household and equivalent waste collected in the total project area is separated and transferred for processing on average 4600 tonnes (~ 20%), packaging waste and other waste treated for processing;
- the total amount of household and equivalent waste collected in the total project area is separated and transferred to composting on average 6000 tonnes (~ 25%) biodegradable waste (hereinafter BNA);
- The amount of construction and repair work collected in the total project area is separated and prepared for re-use on average 350 tonnes (~ 80%) of construction and repair works.
● Increase in the capacity of the infiltrate collection and treatment system as a result of the project ensures that the infiltrate is cleaned up to 25 thousand m3/year, or 5 m3/h, which is equivalent TO 100% for the treatment of all the collected infiltrate.
● The built-in gas collection and disposal system ensures the disposal of landfill gases from 895 thousand m3 in 2015, up to 1780 thousand m3 in 2043.

The beneficiary of the financing within the scope of this project is SIA “East Latgale waste management company”
The supervision of the administrative, financial and technical management of the project shall be ensured by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development OF LATVIA.
