From the next year until autumn 2019, the mapping of protected habitats will be performed throughout Latvia – experts will go to nature and inventory forests, marshes, outcrops, waters and grassland. In order to include grassland which has never been inspected for the status of biologically valuable grassland (BVZ), the Nature Protection Board invites land owners by this year. 15 May to apply for the inspection of such territory.
Owners of grassland are invited to submit only grassland which, according to the owner, meets at least one of the following characteristics:
- the grassland has been used extensively as a grassland or pasture and has not been ploughed for at least 30-40 years, with hay harvesting and/or grazing, no fertilizers used each year with a nitrogen dose of more than 50 kg/ha;
- the grassland consists of a large number of different species of wild flower plants and does not dominate one or more of the species listed: the bowel, the healing, the grassland, the meadows, the usual chamois grass, the large sodium, the gout of the gout, the woodcrash, the perennial sheep;
- at least five natural grassland indicator species are common throughout the grassland area. The most famous of these are the trousers, the spark, or the wild nickel, the ordinary visitor, or a fleeting, European sun-pub, the soap, the nozzle, the middle knee, etc.
The checks will not be carried out in grassland which had been applied for THE establishment OF BVZ in 2013 but were not considered biologically valuable.
For mapping Latvia will be divided into 12,5 x 12,5 km in large squares. In each of these, the expert will be obliged to visit the grassland identified as biologically valuable grassland until 2013 (the grassland checked in 2013 and 2014 will not be visited). The remainder of the grassland will be carried out at random, taking into account the location of the grassland in the terrain and if there is a large probability that the grassland could be biologically valuable after analysis of the various cartographic materials.
The survey results will be collected and reported progressively in line with the work carried out in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Information on biologically valuable grassland marked in rural block maps will be able to obtain rural support inputs (LAD) in regional administrations and the natural data management system “oak”.
In addition to information, the application form and the model to be appended to the map can be found on the Internet site of the www.daba.gov.lv Protection Administration - > actuality - > BVZ check.
