Routine vaccination of wild fox and raccoon-dogs against rabies

On 3 September, the Food and Veterinary Service initiated the routine vaccination of wild foxes and raccoon dogs against rabies.
A live attenuated rabies virus SAD BERN mSv Bio 10 strain-containing vaccine “Lysvulpen por.a.etc.” will be used for vaccination. The vaccine in liquid form is placed in a foil capsule incorporated into the feed casing. The bait looks like a brownish cubicle, slightly smaller than a box of matches. The vaccines will be distributed evenly in the eastern part of Latvia at 19 245 km2, with 1 km2 throwing 20-25 vaccine baits with 500 metres spacing between flight bars.
