For the first time in a special event, the athletes of Rezekne municipality were honoured
On 27 January, for the first time in the history of Rezekne, the event was held – “Rēzekne municipality SPORTS LAUREATE 2022”. The best sports athletes were honoured in ten nominations. The festive event took place IN Maltas parish cultural house.
The aim of the event is to identify and honor persons on the progress achieved in sport or the development of the sport sector by summing up individual athletes, sports teams, sports organisations, sports event organisers, sports trainers, as well as persons who have supported or contributed to the development of the sports sector in the Rēzekne municipality in 2022.
Also inform the public about sporting achievements in 2022 and introduce the best athletes and sports organisers of Rezekne.
All applications submitted were assessed by the members of the Sports Advisory Council. It should be noted that there were not only amateur sports representatives, but also European and world champions, among the recipients and nominators of the prizes.
The prizes were given in the following nominations:
- Annual Athletes - Maria Ruijan
- Annual Athlete - Aivars Shutka
- Best Judge – Anatoly Jasinsky
- Hope in sport - Selena Maria Astashaw
- Annual sports teacher - Inese Boychia
- Annual sports event – sports club “LATGOLYS VONOGI”
- Year coach - Yelena Tarasova
- Lifelong contribution to sport - Irene Ranane
- Sample Sport - Ivars Upenieks
- Annual team - Rēzekne municipality/sun boys
It should be noted that a special award was also given during the event. Viacheslav Visnakov was awarded a prize for the contribution of the Rēzekne municipality to the development of football (1991 –2022). Viacheslav was a knowledgeable, inspiring coach who provided sports training and, despite the short period of training, his team took prizes. Unfortunately, the coach lost his heavy disease in 2022. During the event, the prize was received by Viacheslava's wife and son.
“I am really pleased today that there are both those who care for massage, organise events in schools, professional orientation programmes, play in different teams, individual sports. I hope that the sports consultative Council, which includes the professionals of their industry, will really give advice to you,” said the President OF the Rēzekne council AT Monvīds Švarcs.
The President stressed that one important element of success is infrastructure. Rēzekne municipality is proud that THE construction of Viļānu sports Halles was launched in 2022, which is planned to be completed in 2023. This infrastructure will certainly serve as a good basis for the development of their talents.
In previous years, sports laureates were rewarded under other measures. An athlete, coach or team who has reached the highest sporting results in the Latvian Championship, or a Latvian sports veteran in the Union's final competition, or a national and international competition in 2022, as well as popularized the Rēzekne District and/or Latvian name, has contributed to the development of sports in Rezekne District, may qualify for the title of the laureate.
“Sport is a joy, sport is sometimes disappointed, sports teach you to be happy, go to great goals and do a great job, and it can continue because sport in my life has brought a great deal of wonderful things. These are all the things i have mentioned above and are given by people who are very much interested in sport and are unequivocally our trainers, sports teachers. Today i would like to take advantage of the opportunity and all the trainers who have been invited to be in sport, to work with children, young people, inspire, to say thank you very much,“ at the time of his speech, the light-athlete Gunta Vaičule, who gave the prize in the nomination “year coach”, said the words of gratitude.
The Sports Club Magnen, Edgars and Mars Kļaviņš, also provided the prizes for schools that were more active in 2022 involving pupils in the activities organised by the club. The prizes were given – Sakstagala Jānis Kco pamastkok, Viļānu for sports school, Dricānu secondary school and Maltas for secondary school.
