End project media club

The project “media club”, which was invited by members of the Rēzekne municipality, was concluded, the participants of which were invited to critically assess their internet usage habits, to understand which sources of news can be trusted, as well as to create interesting discussions on topical topics.

The project took five lessons - online discussions involving 104 participants-local impact leaders – journalists, Rēzekne municipality parish counselors, librarians, cultural house leaders, as well as other stakeholders.

The first two activities analysed the participants' profiles in social networks. The participants discussed which sources of news are worth of confidence in which the published news would be worth sharing. The third lesson was dedicated to the photograph. The photographer, Eduard Medvedev, talked about history - how the cameras that the camera could pick, photographing the product, looking for photos in the future, providing advice on how to take a commercial photo, and sharing useful internet links. “I am delighted to talk to journalists and other interested in the art of photography, as well as to discuss how to raise public attention today with the help of good photography. Intelligent and very creative audience," Eduard said.

The participants also participated actively in the discussion. The journalist Marina Tetarenko, journalist of the newspaper “Rēzekne Ambassador”, told her about her photography habits: “I usually take a photograph with the phone, then make a very careful look at the photo. I like taking pictures of nature, i'm trying to respect the beauty of nature at any time of season. In our newspaper, the most important reporter is a professional photographer, but it happens that i walk past something interesting, and it goes into the newspapers. 'Marina invited the parish representatives to be involved in the creation of the newspaper, sending photo and reports.

On the other hand, the librarian Meldrai Gailane, who forms his own daughter's blog, and does it with the phone, was more interested in how beautifully photographed the books. Lector Eduard Medvedev said it was important to make a story by placing beautiful objects, “playing” with light, inviting children: “In fact, any photograph can be made interesting by putting children and animals in the frame.“ They all like it! ”

The fourth and fifth lesson was directed by Sandra Murinska. Together with participants, many of whom were students, the aspects of the ethics of communication were discussed: reliable, fair treatment and the publication of responsible information. The participants admitted that they were tired of the massive flow of information and often avoided large texts and their reading. It was concluded that the creation of appropriate communication is assisted by media literacy and education, which contributes to critical thinking. The participants acknowledged that they were trying to critically assess information on a daily basis and aware of the potential impacts and objectives of each communicator. It must be said that a large majority of participants acknowledged that their opinion could not be influenced by what is published in social media famous personalities. The views of experts, family members and relatives are more heard and taken into account.

The librarian of the Rēzekne municipality, Lendžu parish, said, “I liked all the lectures, and Marina's comments were very interesting.” I'll also take account of Eduard's advice on improving the quality of the photograph. And our online discussions seemed very valuable. Thank you! '

Elita Celma does not live in Rēzekne for a long time, so she was glad to speak again to the people of the city of birth: “thanks to the participation in the project, i gained a pleasant living connection with real people of Rezekne and the people of the municipality, the staff of the various municipalities and institutions. It is a pleasure that our opinions coincide - the information that we have in our profiles on social networks must be tested so that it is no shame. '

The President of the Rēzekne municipality of Bērzgales parish cultural house, Daila Ekimane, says that the project provided practical information: “so far it was heard and knew that there was much disinformation on the Internet that there existed internet trolls, but i did not know how they“ worked ”. I learned how to recognize false news and their dealers. Useful information was about photography, the required photo processing before publication. '

AT the TIME OF the project OF Stružānu, Leocadia Razgale, the leader of the People's House, learned how huge and saturated the information room was around: “I even compare it with a spider network - it makes it easy to attract a potential“ victim ”- an information consumer who is often powerless pausing from this network, so the majority of the day is forced to“ greet ”all the information in turn.”

The newspaper “Panorama Rezekne” journalist Aleksandrs Basilevs is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the project: “it is very important to treat information that is superfluous on the Internet, avoid messages that are only in the interest of certain groups but do not meet the public interest as a whole. The project recalls that all, especially journalists, regardless of political interests, should avoid non-critical sharing of information. There are no more factual checks in many media, so the effects of bloggers and influencing have become very strong. '

The “media club” project is implemented by the association “opinion leaders school”, it is in collaboration with British Council representation in Latvia and Baltic Independent Media Project.

The project is supported by the municipality of Rezekne and the Rēzekne Technology Academy.
