Parish historic development

In the late 19 th century, the formation of Maltese parish was located in the 19 th century, when a cross-country highway, Petersburg – Warsaw, was built in 1838, later in 1861, the railway line Petersburg – Warsaw. From a nearby Rozentova manor, the newly built railway station Antonopoli (Malta), which was important to trade, was formed by a new populated site, Borovaya, which became the main centre of trade due to its advantageous geographical location. The borovaya was included in Rozentova parish, but in 1925 it was renamed Maltese parish, and the Borovaya village was Maltese. Malta was the largest village in the Rēzekne District (715 inhabitants). It included the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, the Old Believers' prayer house, the Jewish synagogue, and two primary schools. In 1939, the parish of Maltese covered significantly larger land areas. Part of the former territory of Maltese parish is in the parish of Makoņkalna, Luznava parish, Feimane parish and Silverish parish. Most of the designated municipalities were established only in the Soviet years. The main stage in Malta's growth was between 1950 and 1967 when Malta was the Maltese District Centre (1950 – 1959). During this time, intensive construction took place - a cultural house was restored (built in 1939 as guards house), built dairies, hospital, schools. By 1967, 332 individual homes were built in Malta, which contributed to a rapid increase in population.
